In recent years, we have noticed that major medical textbooks have started being published, in full text, on CD-ROM. A recent addition to the ranks, The Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry, which is well established as a major textbook in the field, is an important contribution to the rapidly growing software library of psychiatry. This CD-ROM not only contains the full text of the manual, but also allows access to every chart, table, and diagram appearing in the printed version by simply clicking on its number. Color graphics of commonly prescribed, major therapeutic drugs may be viewed on screen from drug names highlighted in the text. The powerful searching capabilities and compact storage are well-known advantages of computerized textbooks. The addition of Frank Ayd's Lexicon of Psychiatry Neurology and Neuroscience on this single CD-ROM has made it even more attractive.
