We read with interest the letter of Goldberg and Podell commenting on our positron emission tomography symptom provocation study of OCD.¹ Goldberg et al² have developed a measure (CBT) of a parameter they call context dependence. Based on natural lesion experiments, they have inferred a tentative functional neuroanatomy of this behavioral bias (context dependence vs context independence) that is lateralized and gender dimorphic. Goldberg and Podell suggest that their findings resonate with our report of positive correlation of left anterior medial orbitofrontal relative rCBF with OCDAS and negative correlation of right posterior medial orbitofrontal rCBF with OCDAS. They propose that the CBT could provide a behavioral measure to be correlated with rCBF in future studies. They assume that we were not concerned with gender differences because we studied a cohort of five males and three females.
